To connect to RailRoadXing's IRC you will first need a chat program, or client.
We personally recommend mIRC,
a shareware IRC client designed for Windows by Khaled
Mardam-Bey.
mIRC: An IRC Client Program
mIRC is among the best and easiest IRC clients available. mIRC offers a fast, clean IRC
interface, and comes equipped with a variety of useful options and tools.
Follow these steps to connect to your Virtual IRC service using mIRC:
- Open the mIRC program.
The About mIRC window pops up. This window contains
help files for the mIRC. We especially recommend you take a look at the Introduction.
- Close the About mIRC window by clicking the X in the upper right-hand corner.
After the About mIRC window closes, the mIRC Setup window appears.
- Type "railroadxing.com" in the IRC server box. You must also enter the
following information:
Full Name
Email Address
Nickname
- Click the button that says, Connect to IRC server! This will bring up the
mIRC Channels Folder.
- Enter a channel name. You can either type in your own channel name or scroll through the
list and choose a channel name from the samples provided. This list does not show channels
that are actively being used on your IRC service but is simply a list of some commonly
used channel names. It is a good idea to choose a channel name that identifies the type of
discussion that you would like to have take place in the channel.
- Click Join.
You are now connected to RailRoadXing's Virtual IRC service!
If you havent already done so, you should take some time to familiarize yourself
with some basic commands. The mIRC Web site, http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/6000,
contains help files, readmes, FAQs, and other information to help you avoid getting lost
or confused.
